Ding! 80 Oct. 30th, 2009 @ 02:48 pm
So after a little over 1 year I finally hit level 80 in World of Warcraft. I said that I would go back and play my alts after hitting 80 but I have no motivation to do so at the moment. In fact, I have little motivation to continue playing my main dude other than to see what else bliz has hidden in the world. Now I know I haven't seen but maybe a third of the possible content, but if I don't plan on playing PvP, what's the point of getting "epic gear" when my next level grind will be all the same?

politics Sep. 17th, 2009 @ 09:54 pm
Maybe it's just me, but the political discussions in my office amount to nothing more than gossip for the well off. Is it just me?

DragonCon 2009 Wrap up Sep. 9th, 2009 @ 03:54 pm
So after being dragged to some event in Atlanta called Dragoncon, I have to admit the experience was a bit disappointing. The logistics and organization of the event were all wrong. And the panels were just flat out dull...

PSYCH!!!!! It was a freaking blast! Arc Attack were worth the price of admission alone! Meeting up with Weephun, Coffee Jedi, Incyr (and their ladies)...Learning to play The Spoils...Shatner and Nemoy...Adult Swim...MC Chris...Space Ghost (George Lowe)...and the costumes!...Too much fun!!!!!

Best part of all, I think I got the Mrs to come next year!

I dumped all of my pics to flickr. Must rest now.

DragonCon 2009 (UPDATE-updated) Aug. 26th, 2009 @ 07:28 pm
I bought my ticket through Ticketmaster. While I'm expecting the 9.75 convenience fee, I also got hit for another 4.75 order processing fee. I can definitely see why there's an extreme dislike of them.

As for the D* scheduling, I have pretty much decided to throw everything I can at seeing Kirk and Spock's panel Fri morning. I'm planning on trying for the casting call after that. Adult swim panels. Dub your own anime/hentai sessions. And pretty much all of the film making sessions that I feel motivated to attend. Mythbusting would be fun, depending on the other panelists. The Guild...anime...

Outside of that, I'm pretty flexible and plan on trying my hand at new games or whatever. Anything I should definitely catch?

UPDATE: I need buckets of cash! I got the photo op with Shattner and Nemoy for $160, but now I can't afford to eat. I want the op with Patrick Stewart but then I won't be able to afford to breathe!

DragonCon 2009 Aug. 25th, 2009 @ 05:46 pm
Ok. It looks like I'm definitely going. No excuses (besides budget). This is my first con ever. Not sure what to bring or expect outside of what Clayfoot has told me.

Without putting someone's business into the public, it feels good to know you have the respect and admiration of your friends.

Oh yeah, I didn't forget about my self imposed game deadline. I plan on uploading it this weekend.
» Now all I have to do is wait
Seagate's outlet store ran a sale early this month where they had the Maxtor Shared Storage II Dual Drive 2TB for $250. These NAS drives normally sell for $500+ so I jumped on it, natch. Just to make things interesting, Clayfoot decided to order one at the same time. Keep in mind he lives only a few blocks from me.

A few days pass by and my product is supposed to be delivered at the house. When I get home...no box. FedEx claimed they delivered it. To keep things interesting, Clayfoot's package says "Delivery Exception". Curious. So I called up FedEx...you know what I'll just skip to the end. FedEx rejected my claim and said to call Seagate. The guys at Seagate said they'll file a claim and will reimburse me if/when FedEx pays them.

Today I receive confirmation that they are going to credit my card for the full price. The potiential happy ending is that this week the same device is on sale for $20 cheaper, so I jumped on it (natch). THIS time I'm sending it to work.

If you saw the post on Boing Boing about how the more you share the music, the more songs you get, then this will be familiar.

It's been something like 15 years since I've had to take care of a puppy. Rin (the small one laying down) is an evil mastermind escape artist. Jiraiya is laid back. Here's an example of how bad Rin can be. She found out that if she pushes her brother against the baby gate we use to keep them contained, It'll budge enough for her to escape. And she won't even take him!

But if I pick up one to take outside and not the other, boy the whinning will not stop. You would think I was killing puppies in the house.

» random update for those inclined
first off, thanks to everyone who voted and supported my run for the audi. I didn't win, and as far as I can tell I didn't place either.

puppies are developing nicely. rin is stubborn and has bacome an escape artist. jiraiya is mellow and whines when you don't hold him while he's sleepy.

I finally got gears 2 and fallout 3, but no time to play. my warcraft main dude is still at 55 and I can only seem to play it for a 2 hrs a week.

lastly my latest 'fight the power' project is in pre alpha. if I can ever get my service to run right i'll post more.
» So far so good!
My 2009 has started off pretty peachy! On the 3rd I got puppies. Yes plural. 2 little white Maltese pups named Rin (from Inyuasha) and Jiraiya (from Naruto). The funny part is that it was the Mrs. who agreed to the names. There's more stories about the first 24 hrs, but that's for later.

Wed the 7th, my Christmas bag of crap arrived. It was my first bag of crap and I was excited! 13.2 lbs of goodness! .... or not. I got 2 Panic Buttons.19 packs of 4x6 photo paper (where all of the weight came from). And the crown jewel of my boc...12 packs of Tune Cube speakers. Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas this year?

Yesterday left another surprise package on my door. And this was a real surprise. A long tube carrier box was waiting for me. On the label it said it was from Grand Rapids, MN. I don't know anyone up there, but saw GTA IV on the label. Since the box was light, I'm thinking it was some kind of poster that I can hang in my office. Low and behold it contained my own Liberty City Slugger! This goes into my arsenal!

All of these goodies at the beginning of the year is making me think I should set up some kind of something to get random gifts the first week of every year.

» Recording the Rush for Audi - Finals
I've been selected as a finalist in Audi's Record the Rush contest. I had to make a video outlining why I attended one of their events over the summer and why I deserved to win a lease on a new car. Have a little fun at my expense and watch my video. After you watch it, please vote. You're allowed to vote once a day (per email address hint! Hint!) between now and 30 Dec. Please pass this on since votes count for 30% of the final score.

You may view the video and vote here:

UPDATE: I found out that you may not know which video is mine. Mine is the only one from Warner Robins, GA. Just look for Lee G.
» I'm in the Finals!
I just received word from the contest organizer that I'm in the final 10 for the Audi contest! Apparently I had my dates wrong and public voting will open up this Fri (12th). I'll post the link to vote when I find out.
Thanks again!

Of course I would appreciate your vote and any others you can generate. After watching the video I can answer you honestly that was about 80% of the truth.
» Programmer Wanted: Must Hate Fun
If you know anyone that has .NET experience, and is willing to sacrifice fun and a social life for a steady paycheck in the middle of backwoods GA, and may enjoy the comedy stylings of Clayfoot and myself

OR

If you know of someone with .NET expereience and you hate them enough to send them to the fun-void that is backwoods GA, while torturing them with the company of Clayfood and myself...

Please send a resume to me at (LeeGriffin at google's gmail address)

PS: bonus points if they are married. That way they are already miserable and probably won't feel a thing. Single people don't last too long 'round these parts
» Graphic Novels
I don't know exactly why, but I've been on a graphic novel kick. I think [info]clayfoot started it when he loaned me the Sandman series. I used to love comic books as a kid and I still pick up a few occasionally, but I grew tired with how all of these dramatic events would happen just to reset the world back to where it was. That really turned me off with mainstream comics. And if I ever did get interested in a story line (like Marve's Civil War), I would say I'll wait to pick up the trade paperback then forget that it ever existed.

So complete stand alone stories are now my thing. It started with the Sandman, and now I just finished Y the Last Man. After I finish a book in the series, I recap the story for my wife. She enjoys the story as well and I think I'm starting to get her interested in comics. She doesn't want anything with depressing stories.
I'm starting the Watchmen sometime soon (it's already sitting here). Any recommendations on what I can add to my queue or start my wife on?

You have new Picture Mail!, originally uploaded by ROBOGriff.

Besides celebrating 7 years of marriage on the first of the month (thus the reason I'll never go to Dragoncon or PAX West), this past weekend we went to the Audi Driving Experience in Atlanta.

I'll post more details when I get the video edited and posted, but I'll leave you with this picture that pretty much sums it all up...all smiles!

» PROTIP: If you're going to jack off at work...do it in a stall!
I know this was covered in a best of craig's list article, but today some guy decided to spank his monkey next to me at a urinal. Now, normal men's room etiquette dictates that your eyes are foreward while at the urinal, so it's not like I saw anything. But the offender was standing at the urinal when I arrived, started making the distinct fapping noise while I was mid-stream, and continued his activity while I tried to zip up and get out quickly.
